General Job Duties
- Perform general nursing duties including:
- Assessments every 4 hours
- Medication administration
- Reassessment of interventions
- Assistance with activities of daily living (ADL) with tech support
- Blood administration
- Application of back and neck braces
- G-tube feeding
- IV insertion and maintenance
- Central line use and maintenance
- Pain management
- Dressing changes
- Oral care
- Patient turning
- Restraint management
Types of Procedures Required
- Patient assessments
- Medication administration
- Blood administration
- G-tube feeding
- IV insertion and maintenance
- Central line care
- Pain management
- Dressing changes
- Oral care
- Patient turning
- Restraint application
- Application of back and neck braces
Types of Patients
- All neuroscience patients, including:
- Neck and back spinal surgery
- Stroke
- Brain tumor
- Seizure
- Head injury
- Multiple sclerosis (MS)
- Myasthenia gravis
- Peripheral neuropathy
- Encephalopathy
- Spinal fractures
Equipment Utilized
- EPIC electronic charting system
- Vocera communication system
- Pyxis medication system
- Lift equipment (available in all but 5 rooms)
Required Skills and Minimum Years of Experience
- Minimum experience required for travel nursing
Specific Licensures and Certifications
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Shift or Schedule Requirements
- 12-hour shifts, three days per week
- Every other weekend:
- Day shift: Saturday and Sunday
- Night shift: Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday to follow unit patterns
- Every other holiday:
- Day shift holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day
- Night shift holidays: Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, Memorial Day Eve, 3rd of July Night, Labor Day Eve
Floating to Other Units/Departments
- May float to general medical units, including:
- Nephrology
- Oncology
- Orthopedics
- Adult Medical-Surgical
- Surgical
- Rehabilitation
- Cardiac (5G)
Bed Size/Number of Rooms
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio
- Days: 1:4-5
- Nights: 1:5-6
Dress Code
- Scrubs (no specific color, must be matching and professional)
- Tattoos and nose rings must be covered while on duty
Unit/Department-Specific Training and Orientation
- 3-day orientation program:
- Day 1: Canvas training, introductions, and unit tour
- Days 2 and 3: Clinical orientation on the unit with a preceptor
