Serves as a psychologist conducting interviews and psychological evaluations of defendants, law enforcement applicants, and juvenile probation department candidates. Provides clinical supervision to practicum students and testifies in court, maintaining confidentiality and ensuring safety within the department. Requires a doctorate in psychology, experience in forensic or clinical psychology, and state licensure eligibility.
POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Interviews adult and juvenile defendants, potential law enforcement officers, and applicants who are applying for various positions with the Bexar County Juvenile Probation Department, such as detention officer, probation officer, residential treatment officer, student intern, or volunteer; provides clinical supervision to practicum students; testifies in court; and performs related duties as required. Jobs have a critical impact on departmental operations and budget. Directly responsible for the safety of self and indirectly responsible for the safety of co-workers. Job responsibilities include constant handling of confidential information/documents such as psychological profiles of individuals.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a doctorate in Psychology or related field, and one year of supervised postdoctoral experience in clinical psychology, forensic psychology, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Comprehensive knowledge of psychological testing and evaluation techniques. Skill in communicating effectively with hostile, abusive, or irrational individuals. Ability to interpret psychological test and interview results; ability to formulate diagnostic impressions; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, county employees, private attorneys, outside organizations, and the public. Experience in a correctional environment and/or in conducting forensic psychological evaluations is preferred.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
Must be licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists, or must be eligible to be licensed within 6 months of employment.
