JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the instruction of course specific material within the School of Business, Information Technology and Social Sciences.

Instructor will teach 15 credit-load hours per semester of primarily freshman and sophomore on-campus, face-to-face Criminal Justice, Human Services, and/or Sociology courses, including but not limited to a focus on courses such as Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, Deviant Behavior, Human Services, Intimate Relations, Race and Ethnicity, Sexuality and other similar criminal justice, human services, and sociology related courses, serve on college committees, and engage in course and program development.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • The Instructor of Sociology will report directly to the Dean of the School of Business, Information Technology and Social Sciences and will provide 15 credit hours of instruction per semester with a primary teaching load in freshman and sophomore level Criminal Justice, Human Services, and Sociology courses.
  • Responsibilities will also include organizing and maintaining curricula in assigned Criminal Justice, Human Services, and Sociology courses; developing and revising instructional materials as appropriate; keeping student records; assisting in recommending and orienting part-time faculty; and working with college councils and committees as assigned and other duties as assigned by the Dean.
  • Will teach at the San Juan College satellite campuses as needed. May be required to teach Dual Credit Students at San Juan College and/or at local high school campuses.
  • Will maintain a minimum of five office hours per week. May be required to teach day, evening and weekends, participate in college committees as assigned; assist in curriculum review; mentor student research/ service projects; and advise students. Experience in community projects or development is beneficial. Responsibilities include program promotion & advertising, and other duties as assigned by the Dean.
  • Performs related duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Sociology, Social Work or other related disciplines.
  • Five years of field experience in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Sociology, Social Work or other related professions to thoroughly understand the objectives and functions of the position in order to instruct students.
  • The successful candidate will be dynamic with a high energy level and have a strong commitment to the community college and learning college philosophies.
  • The candidate should also value diversity and have a strong multicultural perspective with adult and minority students.
