Location: Washington, Washington, D.C.Job Type: ContractCompensation Range: $44.22 - 51.02 per hourWe’re looking for a seasoned Senior Editor to lead the development of exceptional editorial content across digital and print platforms. The ideal candidate has a sharp editorial eye, a strong network of freelance talent, and a passion for storytelling that informs and inspires. If you're excited to commission and shape stories that help readers better understand the world and their place in it, we want to hear from you.Responsibilities: Oversee the development, commissioning, and editing of stories and editorial packages, including the creation of new franchises and innovative approaches to core topic coverage. Manage workflows to ensure timely delivery, accuracy, and adherence to editorial standards and specifications. Cultivate and maintain relationships with writers and industry professionals, with an emphasis on elevating diverse perspectives and emerging voices. Report to the Editorial Director on project development and challenges, and assist with scheduling, contracting, production stages, and other administrative tasks as needed. Qualifications: Minimum of 6+ years of editorial experience in a media environment, demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility and content management expertise. Exceptional editorial judgment, attention to detail, and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities; deep knowledge of storytelling in various formats and across platforms. Ability to manage creative direction and relationships while executing on editorial vision. Skilled in balancing multiple deadlines and projects with efficiency and clarity. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Self-driven and resourceful, with proven problem-solving abilities and sound independent judgment. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to innovate and contribute fresh editorial ideas while collaborating across functions such as marketing, communications, and business operations. Experience growing and diversifying digital and print audiences. A natural curiosity and the ability to quickly absorb new subject matter. Familiarity with the full editorial process, from ideation to publication, including resolution of logistical and creative challenges. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, editorial CMS platforms (e.g., K4/InCopy), and content planning tools such as AirTable.
