Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to perform skilled community health education and outreach activities by delivering health and disease prevention information. This position will work with clients to address and overcome obstacles that may prohibit referral completions (services rendered). This position will support individuals and communities in adopting healthy behaviors in alignment with program objectives and grant requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education : Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience : One year of experience in providing information on health care and disease prevention within the community.

Notes :

1. Candidates may substitute experience providing assistance to individuals in a health care or social services setting on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Health Services classifications or Health Services and specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:

1. Experience providing outreach education.

2. Certification as a Community Health Outreach Worker (CHOW).

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
