The Position

Democratic Majority for Israel (DMFI) the voice of pro-Israel Democrats seeks an experienced Chief Policy Officer to serve as a member of its Senior Staff team. The Chief Policy Officer will lead DMFIs policy strategy, ensuring our positions are effectively developed, communicated, and advanced across Capitol Hill, with political stakeholders, and within the broader pro-Israel advocacy community.

The successful candidate will be a skilled strategist with a deep understanding of U.S.-Israel policy, legislative processes, and political dynamics. This role requires superior written and verbal communication skills, the ability to engage with senior policymakers and influencers, and proven leadership managing staff and consultants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Policy Development : Work with senior staff and lay leadership to shape DMFIs policy positions and provide strategic guidance on Israel-related issues.
  • Analysis & Communication : Deliver written and verbal analysis on Israel-related policy and current events for Members of Congress, congressional staff, political consultants, DMFIs Board, activists, and donors.
  • Legislative Strategy : Develop and drive pro-Israel legislative vehicles (bills, amendments, letters, floor speeches) and identify opportunities for Democratic elected officials to demonstrate support.
  • Advisory Role : Provide timely counsel on pending legislation and policy issues to Democratic lawmakers and allies.
  • Coalition Building : Partner with other pro-Israel organizations on joint policy initiatives and advocacy campaigns.
  • Rapid Response : Contribute to DMFIs rapid response messaging on policy matters.
  • Oversight : Direct all congressional and educational activities related to policy and advocacy.
  • Leadership : Recruit, hire, and supervise a Deputy; oversee Hill consultants.
  • Other duties as assigned to support DMFIs mission.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in congressional affairs, policy analysis, government relations, or advocacy, preferably with significant Capitol Hill or senior policy experience.
  • Deep knowledge of the U.S.-Israel relationship, Middle East policy, and the U.S. legislative process.
  • Demonstrated ability to craft, analyze, and advance legislative vehicles.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills tailored to diverse audiences (legislators, donors, activists, consultants).
  • Proven leadership and management skills with experience supervising staff and/or outside consultants.
  • Strong political instincts and ability to work collaboratively in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.
  • Commitment to DMFIs mission and values as proud pro-Israel Democrats.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

COMPENSATION

$180,000 - $200,000
