Job Description

Behavior Specialist II

Primary Purpose:
Responsible for implementing all program services, skills training, individual treatment intervention and mediation between agencies under the direct supervision of the Behavior Analyst II. Provides direct support to Peer Recovery staff and Behavior Specialist I staff.

Position has identified one-year funding. Continuation of this position is based on availability of funds.

Essential Functions:
Staff Supervision:
  • Provides support to the Behavior Analyst II in providing guidance and instruction to Peer Recovery staff and to Behavior Specialist I staff as needed.
  • Assists with the design and implementation of behavior assessments and interventions.
  • Provides support to the Behavior Analyst II in reviewing Peer Recovery Coach and Behavior Specialist I required clinical documentation, and following up with training as needed.

Clinical Services:
  • Records progress towards individual interventions.
  • Maintains client records.
  • Participates in interagency meetings and trainings.
  • Meet 60% agency billing requirement based on a 40-hour work week.
  • Provides treatment updates to referral source.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested in support of program operations.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) and four (4) years of experience in a mental health setting. Or Bachelor's degree (BA or BS), two (2) additional years of graduate professional education, and two (2) years of experience in a mental health setting.
  • One (1) year of experience working with special needs population.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two (2) years of experience working with Adult Special Needs population using Applied Behavior Analysis.
  • Preference given to RBT or BCaBA (Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst).
  • Strong experience implementing behavioral assessments and interventions.
  • Strong professional, ethical and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills when providing feedback to others.
  • Ability to write behavioral based progress notes, emails and clinical documents.
  • Strong ability to clearly articulate performance roles, project goals and timelines.
  • Effectively manages deadlines and tasks independently.
  • Basic understanding of the theory of human behavior, ability to analyze and examine behaviors and functions to help people modify their behaviors and achieve desired goals and outcomes.
  • Ability to develop function based assessments and treatments that will help clients achieve related goals and positive outcomes.
  • Ability to form positive relationships with clients.
  • Positive attitude, ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

The position requires performing physical activities, including standing, kneeling and reaching while interacting with others within the field and within the office. Candidates must be able to move more quickly than the client they are working with and be able to move quickly and swiftly from the floor, to the chair, and back. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work performed in varied environments including office, classroom, public settings and personal residence. This position will utilize standard business hours but will allow for flexibility based on individual caseload and may occasionally include evening and weekends

Additional Requirements:
  • Ability to pass background/sanction checks for the funding agency (ies).
  • Must pass TB test.

Valid driver's license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University's fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.

Hiring Range: $26.63 - $35.29 (We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.)
